Easy Meditation Tips for Everyday Life

We all face challenges in our life, and it can affect each person differently. The causes can be from both internal factors, which our usually self generated; and external factors like work, financial worries, family and friends. So, we need to make sure that we don’t let it take over our lives and find a way to manage our stress on a day to day basis. When you relax, it allows the body to start dealing with some of those stresses. 

One of the best ways to relax is through mediation. Meditation is simply defined as “the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as a religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed”. Therefore, if you want to relieve yourself off stress and worries, then the best option would be to start meditate daily. 

Here are some tips to help you get started: 

#1 Find Your Space

The first thing that you should consider is the place for your meditation. You should look for a place where you will not be disturbed by anyone. I also recommend that you look for somewhere that is calm, peaceful and not cluttered! A cluttered room can lead to a cluttered mind and stop the flow of energy.  I also like to diffuse Sandalwood or Frankincense essential oils whilst meditating, or even just adding a drop to my palms and inhaling, before I start my mediation practice. 

#2 Find Time 

Make time for your mediation each day. In the morning, to help you create the perfect day or maybe on an evening to help you unwind after a busy day.  I would try and set aside 5-10 minutes when you first get started and build the time up over time. 

#3 Be Comfortable. 

Wear comfortable clothing, sit upright with your spine aligned and you chin slightly down. Make sure that you are not too warm or cold, if need be have a blanked nearby. 

#4 Remember To Breathe

Start your mediation with 5 minutes slow deep breathing. This will start to allow your body and mind to relax. 

#5 Let Go 

Don’t worry if you mind starts to wonder, which is probably when you first get started. Simply acknowledge your thoughts and then let them go. Try focusing on a point may help, or slowly counting. 

#6 Observe Your Thoughts

Observe what thoughts come up during your mediation, but keep yourself detached from them.  

#7 Practice & Create A Routine

Set a regular time each day and practice you mediation techniques, building your time up over time. You may decide to do several smaller mediations during the day rather than one long mediation. See what works best for you.

Remember that just 10 minutes of meditation a day can give you time to plan your day, improve concentration and reduce stress.
